How This Macro Calculator Works

This tool starts with your calorie target, estimates protein from body weight and goal, sets fat from your macro style, and gives the remaining calories to carbohydrates.

  • Protein: based on body weight and goal.
  • Fat: based on the selected macro style.
  • Carbs: the calories left after protein and fat are set.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is this macro calculator?

It is an estimate. Use it as a starting point, then adjust based on body weight trend, training performance, recovery, hunger, and adherence over several weeks.

Should I choose balanced, higher carb, or lower carb?

Balanced is the simplest default. Higher carb can fit people who train hard and prefer more carbohydrate around workouts. Lower carb can fit people who prefer more dietary fat.

Should I consult a registered dietitian?

Yes. Consult a registered dietitian or qualified healthcare professional for individualized nutrition guidance, especially if you have medical conditions, a history of disordered eating, pregnancy, or sport performance needs.

How is the protein target calculated?

Protein targets use body weight and goal. Fat loss uses 1.6-2.4 g/kg, maintenance uses 1.4-2.0 g/kg, and muscle gain uses 1.6-2.2 g/kg. If you use pounds, the calculator converts your weight before calculating grams per day.

Macro targets are based on your daily calories. If you have not set one yet, use the calorie calculator first, then come back to split it into protein, carbs, and fat. You can also check your body fat percentage to see how your body composition is trending over time.
